Historical Figures: Cheng Man-ch'ing

Cheng Man-ch'ing

Cheng Man-ch'ing is famous for bringing tai chi to the West. From Taiwan, he opened the Shr Jung T'ai Chi school at 87 Bowery in New York City in the late 1960s. From there, he taught many students who themselves became teachers and that legacy lives on around the United States. Many people train Cheng Man-ch'ing's "37 movement form", which he created based on the Yang family 108 movement form, in order to more quickly and easily spread tai chi around the world.
