Spinal Cord Breathing (Spinal Cord Exercise)

video

Today's Qigong exercise is Spinal Cord Breathing. Doing this spinal cord exercise either standing or seated will warm up the muscles of your back, stretch the intercostal muscles between the ribs and tone your abdominal muscles. This can also benefit the joints of the spine and circulate spinal cord fluid; which is good for your central nervous system.

Coordinating the slow movements with slow deep breaths will help increase your lung capacity, calm your mind and relax the body. Remember, movement heals.

One last thing, this exercise opens up two channels of energy within the body; the Du meridian (along the back) and the Ren Meridian (along the front). Du is the Sea of Yang energy (the energy of DOING) and Ren is the Sea of Yin energy (the energy of BEING). This exercise helps to bring those two energies into balance and harmony. Nature always seeks balance.
