Guigen Qigong Earth Element - Part 2 - Restoring Natural Harmony - Simon Blow Qigong

Guigen Qigong Earth Element - Restoring Natural Harmony Part 2. The Earth Element relates to the spleen (Yin) and stomach (Yang).

The Indian late summer and the climate of humidity correspond to the Earth Element, as does the colour golden yellow.

Deep thinking and worry relate to the spleen and anxiety relates to the pancreas.

The spleen is located on the left side of the abdominal area and is the main organ of the digestive system in TCM.

The functions of the pancreas and the mouth also relate to the spleen which, according to TCM, is where food and fluids enter the body.

The stomach digests the food, sending solids and fluids down, while the essence of these nutrients is sent up to the spleen. The spleen transforms this essence and distributes it to the rest of the body.

Unlike wood, the earth cannot reach toward the sky to actively gather up the Qi. The earth’s nature is rather to keep still, to receive, absorb and contain the Qi, and to nourish life.

When people have weak Earth Qi, they can worry excessively and are prone to pensiveness. They may overwork, especially in studying or other intellectual work. Worry and anxious thinking has a very negative effect on Earth Qi. The more Qi we expend through worry and useless mental activity, the less we have available to move forward on our life path.

Meditation can quieten the mind’s random chatter and engaging in Qigong can quieten it further as psychic Qi is moved back into the vital cycles of life.

Dr Xu describes the benefits of section 2: “It is designed to treat the problems of the mouth, stomach, duodenum, spleen (the term spleen is the term of TCM, small intestine problems are included.)”

The Spleen channel (Yin) originates from the outside of the big toe, to the ankle, and rises up the inside of the leg to the hip, through the abdomen to the chest.

The Stomach channel (Yang) originates from beneath the eye, down to the corner of the mouth, around the jaw, and descends down the neck to the nipple, down the centre of the body to the pubic bone. From the hip, it continues down the front of the leg, passing the knee to the middle of the front of the ankle and finishing on the outside of the second toe.
