Does tai chi work against the new guy?

Most of my students are experienced tai chi players or black belts from other martial arts. So, they don't always get to compare their skill to that of rank beginners. In fact, we sometimes wonder if what we do will work against untrained people, To be quite honest, sometimes it doesn't. But here is an athletic student with no prior martial arts experience, on his first day. It is instructive to compare his response to that of the experienced student.
